Message from the Woman

Estorbo is OK.

I cleaned his bloody claw up and disinfected it once he had calmed down last night and he didn't utter a peep. Good cat. I always trim his nails with him upside down in my lap and for some reason this very bitey cat does not mind that at all. I don't think his toe is broken, but his claw must have been wrenched, somehow. He has no other injures that we can see or feel. He has eaten, rested, slept, purred, stolen some butter and early this morning wanted to go out again to the roof. Needless to say, we did not let him.

His very upsetting panting was stress-related. Not sure if he had run very fast, or been frightened, or chased, but it stopped after he was calm and he cooled off. So the scary cat-panting diagnoses - hopefully - do not apply. I read them, too, last night.

Right now he is on the terrace on his kikoi, under the table, sheltered from some light,  misty rain and dozing. He just bit me when I stroked him, so I think everything is back to normal!

For the foreseeable future Estorbo is banned from the roof unless we are up there, too.

  1. That's good news. Sometimes a claw can get caught in something and then be difficult to extract, thus a struggle etc ensuing. I am sure it was stressful for Estorbo. I like the sound of roof time only under supervision.

  2. Dear Wooman,
Thank you so much for the reassuring update. I'm sure I speak for Estorbo's extensive fan club when I say we have been holding our collective breath. I think Estorbo should go back to something sedentary like makeen more keetens.

  4. Did you hear the sigh of relief from 2500 miles away, Estorbo? I could not bear the thought of anything bad happening to you. Simply could not bear it. Now be careful, please?

  6. I am very relieved because he is such a special cat. It's kind of amazing how we get so attached to an animal so far away, through his pictures and words. He probably needs some mango to go with that butter.

  7. Great relief, thank you. BTW, how does he get to the roof? I always imagine he climbed or jumped up from your terrace, but since I haven't really seen if that's possible, I don't know. And now that you say he's on the terrace but banned from the roof, I guess one doesn't give easy access to the other?

  10. What a relief - thank you for the bulletin. I think you're right about the stressy panting - Scooter panted in the car after his trip to the vet the other day - it's a little alarming to witness. Poor Estorbo; perhaps that was another of the 9 lives being used up.

  14. Whew! We are all huge fans of Don Estorbo, and are relieved that he is better now. Just this afternoon my husband and I stopped at a new nursery we hadn't seen before, and the woman working there stared at us as we discussed buying some Yapanese fores' grass and wondered if it would make us the orpchork. Funny, I don't think she was sad to see us leave.

Take care, Estorbito, your fans love you almost as much as your patient mom does.

  18. I was thinking the same thing as Simba. Maybe Don Estorbo's claw got caught, he was stressed thinking he was trapped and that caused the hyperventilation. Thanks for letting us know he is all right.

  20. Ay, hermano! I read your post from last night! I am so relieved to see the Wooman's post telling us you are OK today. I know there were many people celebrating in the streets of New York last night, but I doubt that had anything to do with your rooftop trauma. Maybe the Wooman will figure it out. In the meantime, cuidate, amigo. Abrazos!
